LegareWear was born out of the idea that I wanted to have a line of clothing that was excellent quality...all Canadian made and was not an arm and a leg to buy. I had just quit my 10 year job as a high risk youth counsellor to pursue my dream of opening my own Fitness centre!!! www.fitnessfanatx.com. 5 years into it my baby brother died in police custody....tragically and unexpectedly.
When your only sibling dies you have to redefine your place in the world and how you now fit into it! I became a part of a club I never wanted membership in, one that marks you for life. Watching my parents grieve is one of the hardest things Ive done in my life...its not the natural order of things for parents to bury their children. Watching my nephew grow up without his dad is a gut wrencher also. Every day I am reminded of my loss.....I watch my nephew and at times its like seeing Dennis right before my eyes. Mannerisms and features of his brought back to life. I am joyous and thank full to see it and sad at the same time that he is not here to see it!
He was the biggest baddest most loveable xtreme balls to wall guy! He had a crazi sense of humour and would give you the shirt off his back. He was the kind of person that always shared the wealth of whatever he had. If he was livin large everyone was livin large! Often judged for how he looked...big tattooed...kinda scary I guess.
Same as the word DURTI right away you make a judgement...an assumption about what it means. But if you knew him you would know that he had a heart of gold! Loved animals and children. His favourite flowers were calla lilies! He did every thing to the xtreme! Go hard or go home....if your not gonna give all youve got then why bother? Fall down 60 times get up 61...thats how he rolled! And if you take the time to find out what DURTI means you definately want to get DURTI
The Durti line was inspired by this......I was and am a graphic artist also. All the designs on the clothing are my drawings. They were a way to deal with my grief....and always have Dennis with me. To give his son a legacy to remember.....to let him know his dad a little! To capture that Determined, Unstoppable, Relentless, Tenacious and Irresistable spirit! That Determined, Unstoppable, Relentless, Tuff and so Intense drive to succeed no matter what kind of cards life handed you.
I hope that the clothing imparts that Durti Spirit onto those who wear it! That whatever they choose to do they do it with Determination....they are Unstoppable......pursuing their goals Relentlessly...with a Tenacious and Irresistable Spirit!!
Go for it...Life is not a dress Rehearsal! Plan for tomorrow but live for today...... Live with intention...and do it DURTI!!!!
